Live Resin in Maine

Live resin is cured resin's louder cousin. Same solvent extraction, one crucial difference: the plant is frozen immediately at harvest instead of being dried and cured first.

Why freezing changes everything

Terpenes are volatile. They start evaporating the moment a plant comes down, and a normal dry-and-cure — the thing that makes flower good to smoke — costs you a significant share of them.

Freezing at harvest stops that clock. The extraction then captures a terpene profile much closer to the living plant: brighter, sharper, more aromatic. If you've ever wondered why a concentrate smelled like the plant in the ground rather than the jar on the shelf, that's live material.

Live resin or live rosin?

People mix these up constantly, and the difference is only the extraction method.

Live resin uses solvent. More efficient, considerably cheaper, and the terpene expression is excellent.

Live rosin uses ice water and a heated press — no solvent at all. Cleaner by definition, more expensive, and it takes far more material to make the same amount.

Both start from the same frozen-fresh material. Which you want comes down to what you're willing to spend and how strongly you feel about solvents.

Where ours is made

Same two labs as our cured resin: Oasis Refinery in Gardiner and SeaWeed Co. in South Portland. Live material is the least forgiving thing you can hand a lab — it arrives frozen, it has to stay frozen, and every hour it spends warm costs it the exact terpenes you're paying for. That's a job for people with the freezer space and the process to match, not for someone learning on your harvest.
