Hash Rosin and Live Rosin in Maine
Rosin is the cleanest and most true to form concentrate you can buy, and the reason is simple: nothing goes into it that wasn't already in the plant.
How it's actually made
Flower (almost always fresh-frozen plant material) gets agitated in ice water. That knocks the trichome heads loose — the resin glands holding the cannabinoids and terpenes — and they're collected through a series of screens as hash. The hash is dried, then pressed through a fine mesh screen between heated plates.
Heat and pressure. That's the whole process. No butane, no ethanol, no solvent of any kind, and therefore nothing to purge out afterward.
Live rosin versus cured
Live rosin starts from material frozen immediately at harvest, so the terpene profile is closer to the living plant — brighter, more volatile, more like the smell of the flower in the field. It also accounts for probably 99% of rosin on the market.
Cured rosin starts from dried and cured flower. Deeper and rounder, more like the smell of the jar. Neither is better. They're different, and which you prefer is genuinely personal.
Where ours comes from
We grow the material and hand it to processors we've chosen for the quality of their work. We'd rather send it to someone who does nothing but wash and press all day than do a middling job of it ourselves.
What that means for you: the rosin starts with flower we grew, in soil we built. And rosin is unforgiving that way — good material makes good rosin, and no amount of skill at the press rescues mediocre input. The grow decides it, and the grow is ours.
Handling it
Keep it cold and keep it dark. Rosin is sensitive and heat and light will strip away the terpenes that make it worth buying. Fridge is fine, freezer for anything you're keeping a while.
